The Romanov sisters of Imperial Russia have always captured the imagination of writers and readers, and I think this is the best book yet about them. Packed with rich filigree detail and told in the lyric and thoughtful voices of each of the grand duchesses, their fate slowly unwinds before the reader's eyes. With unforgettable characters and an ultimately heart-breaking ending, this is one book I wasn't able to put down until I read every last page.
