The Lost Crown by Sarah Miller

The Romanov sisters of Imperial Russia have always captured the imagination of writers and readers, and I think this is the best book yet about them.  Packed with rich filigree detail and told in the lyric and thoughtful voices of each of the grand duchesses, their fate slowly unwinds before the reader's eyes.  With unforgettable characters and an ultimately heart-breaking ending, this is one book I wasn't able to put down until I read every last page.                                         - Reviewed by Michele

Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

This book is centered around a teenager's struggle as he leaves his private school, temporarily moves into New York City, dabbles in alcohol and tobacco, all without his parent's consent.  I think that the laid back style of writing and the man vs self conflict throughout the novel is highly entertaining.  Salinger perfectly depicts a struggling teen who, like many other teens is rebelling against his parents, peers and society.

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson

This novel has won many awards and it is clear why.  Anderson's words portrayed a depressed high school girl so perfectly.  The dialogue was very realistic and so was the sad truth about a High School's understanding of rape.  Melinda, the main character, asked herself if it was her fault, which is the terrible way society makes women feel. My only criticism was the high school setting began to bore me.  However, the book was well written.

Macbeth by William Shakespeare

After reading Shakespeare in school, performing monologues and A Midsummer's Night Dream, I became very interested in his work.  Macbeth conveys an important message about greed an guilt that still remains relevant.  I actually read it to prepare myself to see Alan Cumming in a one man version of Macbeth which was incredible.  It really made the experience better to know the play before hand.
