Paying for College 101

This workshop will include the basics of applying for financial aid, important dates and terminology, how financial need is determined, and the difference between various award types.

This is Teen Read Week!

Teen Read Week
“Books With Beat”
October 17th – 23rd
Teen Read Week is a national program aimed at encouraging teens to read. This year’s theme is Books with Beat which encourages teens to read poetry, books about music, listen to audio books, and more. Stop by Young Adult Central any time during the week and fill out a brief book review on any book you feel has a great “beat” and you’ll be rewarded with a prize! Check out our display of books and cast a vote for your favorite.

Want to help plan programs for YA Central? Meet new friends? Discuss current trends in music, books, television and movies? Do you have great ideas to share? Then the Teen Advisory Board is for you! All students in grades 6 to 12 are invited to join the new Teen Advisory Board with Young Adult Librarian Mrs. Meglio. We value your voice and opinions and would love to hear from you! College Admissions Essay Workshop

Wednesday, October 6th from 7 – 8 PM

All High School students are welcome to join us for this valuable workshop taught by professionals from Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions. This workshop is designed to show students and parents what college admissions officers want to see in an essay and application. The workshop will examine the types of topics students will encounter, cover steps to writing an excellent essay, and critique a sample admissions essay. Questions regarding the S.A.T., ACT, and S.A.T. subject tests, college admissions and more will be discussed. Please call YA Central to see if there is still space available!

This Week: Teens Connect Orientation

Thursday, October 7th from 7 - 8 PM

Students in grades 6 to 12 who would like to earn community service hours by volunteering for special library programs are invited to join “Teens Connect”. At this orientation meeting, librarians Mrs. Moisan and Mrs. Meglio will explain how service hours are earned and about the many upcoming events, including Storybook Halloween on October 31st, which you may volunteer to participate in.
