Summer Volunteer Opportunities

I Can Read Orientation
Wednesday, May 26th from 6:30 - 7 PM
For students entering grades 9 - 12 in September
The Young Adult Department, in cooperation with the Children’s Department, is looking for high school volunteers who would like to listen to young children read an age-appropriate book. If you enjoy working with young children, and have a few hours to spare in July and August, you will have the opportunity to work with 1st and 2nd grade students, helping them reinforce their reading skills. All interested teens must attend this orientation meeting in order to participate in the program. All participants will earn community service credit. Please call the Young Adult Desk to register for the meeting.

Tales For Tots Orientation
Wednesday, May 26th from 7:15 – 7:45 PM
For students entering grades 7 - 8 in September
The Young Adult Department, in cooperation with the Children’s Department, is looking for teen volunteers who would like to read to preschoolers during the summer. If you enjoy working with young children, love to read, and would like to volunteer a few hours in July and August, this program is for you. All interested teens must attend this orientation meeting in order to participate. All participants will earn community service credit. Please call the Young Adult Desk to register for the meeting.

Teen Literary Committee Meeting for the Summer Reading Club Desk
Wednesday, May 26th from 8 - 8:45 PM
All teens in grades 6-12 who have attended TLC meetings this year and would like to volunteer at the Teen Summer Reading Club Desk this summer, must attend this important meeting. We will be covering everything related to how the Summer Reading Club will work, desk scheduling, and more. Community service credit will be given! If you cannot attend this mandatory meeting, please contact Mr. Cooper.

Computer Tutors Orientation
Wednesday, June 2nd from 7 - 7:45 PM

For students entering Grades 9 -12 in September
Do you have a comprehensive knowledge of computers? Volunteer your time this summer to help our senior citizen patrons become more comfortable using a computer, and earn community service hours at the same time. This is an informational meeting to discuss the Computer Tutors schedule and what you will be doing. If you have volunteered for Computer Tutors in the past, we would love to have you back! Blooming Fruit Sundae Arrangement


Tuesday, May 11th from 7:00-8:15pm


Have you ever seen an edible fruit arrangement? Design your own flower pot that will be topped with ice cream, marshmallows and fruits that will transform into a Blooming Fruit Edible Arrangement. We will also play "fun fruit facts bingo". Please call the Young Adult Desk to register.

A Cake for Mom


Saturday, May 8th from 11am-12:15pm


Join Mr. Cooper and your friends as you become cake decorators for a day! You will be given everything you need to create a colorful, tasty, and creative cake. Your sweet treat will make the perfect gift for you to share with your special mom. Please call the Young Adult Desk to register.

Student Banking 101


Monday, May 10th at 7pm


All students are welcome to learn more information relating to checking accounts, savings accounts, debit and credit cards and more. A representative from Bank of America will provide all students with a Student Financial Handbook to take home. Please call the Young Adult Desk to register. Parents are welcome as well.
