Conquer the S.A.T.


Monday, November 16th from 7:00-8:30pm



Parents and high school students are invited to join Mindy Lampert, a pre-college Director from Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions, for an informative overview of the S.A.T. test. Reviews of the test and key strategies for taking the math, reading and the essay section of the exam will be discussed. Comparisons to the ACT exam as well as guidelines and handouts for the entire college admissions process will be reviewed. Age of Empires 3 Tournament

Join us in Young Adult Central for a night of playing Age of Empires III. This epic real-time strategy game spans 10,000 years. Players are challenged to build tribes into great civilizations and attempt to accumulate wealth, dominate the world and conquer the enemy. Do you think you have what it takes to rule the world? Middle School Teens Read


Friday, December 4th from 7:00-8:30pm



Any middle school student and a parent may join us to discuss Fever, 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson. During the summer of 1793, Mattie Cook lives above the family coffee shop with her widowed mother and grandfather. Mattie spends her days avoiding chores and making plans to turn the family business into the finest establishment Philadelphia has ever seen. But then the yellow fever breaks out.
Disease sweeps the streets, destroying everything in its path and turning Mattie’s world upside down. At her feverish mother’s insistence, Mattie flees the city with her grandfather. But she soon discovers that the sickness is everywhere, and Mattie must learn quickly how to survive in a city turned frantic with disease. Please call the Reference Desk to register. Autumn Cakes: Tuesday, November 24 from 7:00-8:00pm



Students will be creating their own tasty cake decorated with fall-colored icing and toppings. Everyone will go home with their very own cake to enjoy, or perhaps bring to a Thanksgiving table. Please call the Reference Desk to register.

Glass Beading Workshop: Tuesday, December 1st from 7:00-8:30pm



Use your creativity to design your own one-of-a-kind necklaces, earrings and bracelets in this glass beading workshop. A professional jewelry artist will provide you with supplies and guidance to create your own beaded jewels. All students will go home with their masterpiece. National Authors Bagels and Bingo

Saturday, November 14th from 11:00-12:15

Join Mr. Cooper for bagels and refreshments and celebrate National Authors Day. In this special program he will talk about his top five young adult authors, and lead you in a variety of fun activities including "Author Bingo"! Everyone will have a chance to win prizes. Teen Literary Committee Meeting: Wednesday, November 18th



Grades 6 - 8 meet from 7 - 8 PM Grades 9 - 12 meet from 8 - 9 PM

All students in grades 6 to 12 are invited to join the Teen Literary Committee with Mr. Cooper. TLC meets monthly for fun discussions of young adult books, programs, movies, summer reading clubs and more. Bring a book with you to share. New members are always welcome so please bring a friend and join the Teen Literary Committee! We will also have special activities at this month’s meeting to honor National Authors Day which is November 1st. No registration is necessary.

Teen Read Week: "Read Beyond Reality"



October 18th - 24th
Teen Read Week is a national program aimed at encouraging teens to read. This year’s theme is Read Beyond Reality. Stop by YA Central any time during the week and fill out a brief book review on any book you feel is "out of this world" and you will be rewarded with a prize! Perhaps you enjoy science fiction, fantasy, or books on virtual reality. Choose any of these types of books and after you "read beyond reality", stop in YA Central and write a review. Mr. Cooper also has selected several books to display in YA Central during Teen Read Week. Vote for your favorites and receive a chance to win a special prize at the end of the week.

Teen Fright Night: Tuesday, October 27th from 7:00-8:15pm


Join professional magician Terry Parrett for this spooky and entertaining show and hear tales from beyond the grave! Then watch in amazement as he demonstrates his mysterious mind reading abilities, magic tricks and more! Tales of the Unknown will leave you speechless and keep you on the edge of your seat! October is National Teen Magazine Month!




Stop by YA Central and check out our selection of magazines just for teens. There is something for everyone! If you have a recommendation for magazines that are currently not in our collection, please give your suggestions to Young Adult Librarian Mr. Cooper. There will be a contest in October to see which teen magazines you find most appealing and which are the most popular, so stop by YA Central to learn all the details! Some of our teen magazines include: Black Belt, CosmoGirl, EGM, GamePro, J-14, M Magazine, Mad, PC Gamer, Realms of Fantasy, Ride BMX, Shonen Jump, Seventeen, Skateboarding, Snowboarder, Surfing, Teen Vogue, WWE Magazine and more!

Crazy Pumpkins: Thursday, October 15th from 7:00-8:30pm



Get as creative as you like and join Mr. Cooper as you paint your own Halloween pumpkin to take home. Reproduce the image of your favorite book or cartoon character, or paint the most ghoulish face you can imagine. Prizes will be awarded to the most creatively designed pumpkins. We will also be playing some "Halloween Bingo" and all teens can win many cool prizes! Please call the Reference Desk to register.

Googly Eyed Oreo Cake: Monday, October 19th at 7pm
